BacLinks Big Day Out: Creating links in our community
21 July 2008
The BacLinks Workplace Big Day Out is a great opportunity for local businesses to experience a unique connection with the Geelong community, and for employees to volunteer on behalf of their company.
Volunteers will spend the day playing games such as netball, cricket and martial arts with people with disabilities, whilst being supported by trained Karingal staff.
According to Karingal CEO Daryl Starkey, the BacLinks Workplace Big Day Out is a great way for local businesses to contribute to the community whilst having a good time.
“The event is a fantastic way for employees to learn about other people, and contribute to society in a positive way,” said Daryl. “It’s also a good chance to network and meet other like-minded businesses and community groups throughout Geelong.”
The event will be held at Corio Leisuretime in Norlane, and is sponsored by MatchWorks.
MatchWorks General Manager Michael Wasley said that being involved with an event like the BacLinks Workplace Big Day Out enabled them to give back to the Geelong community.
No experience with people with a disability is needed, and volunteers will be fully supported by Karingal staff.
Karingal is a Geelong based, not-for-profit community organisation working to improve the lives and options of people with a disability and those who are disadvantaged.
BacLinks is a division of Karingal which helps support collaborations of local businesses and community groups, to promote positive social outcomes.
