Shared Support Accommodation provides community based supported accommodation for people with a disability.
Karingal operates six long-term shared supported accommodation services, five in Geelong and one in Colac. They are located at:
- Karingal House, East Geelong
- Rossack House, East Geelong
- McAllister, St Albans Park
- Wontama, East Geelong
- Tahara, Hamlyn Heights
- Wallace Street, Colac
Shared Support Accommodation has been developed to provide people with a disability with a lifestyle similar to other members of the community. Through this program, people with a disability are supported through everyday activities and are encouraged to develop skills and interactions associated with daily living such as:
- Personal care - bathing, toileting, self care, oral hygiene
- General self care - eating, drinking, dressing, food preparation, care of clothing, medication
- Household management - house cleaning, shopping, budgeting
- Decision Making and Choice
- Accessing and utilising community resources and services - banks, shops, recreational facilities
- Maintaining social and family relationships
- Living as part of a group
