Today's financial climate is tough on community organisations/groups
It is difficult in today’s competitive and economically driven world for community agencies and groups to financially survive and adequately service their client base. More often they need to look towards and compete for business to meet this resource gap. This has meant a shift in the way community agencies view themselves, how they operate and their accountability to the community and funding bodies.
Community agencies are thus recognising the benefits of relationships that go beyond those directly involved in their primary interests. There are rich possibilities for advancing these interests through creative collaborations with business.

BacLinks has found that community agencies:
- Need advice and support to engage with business and to articulate needs
- Are no longer satisfied with philanthropic handouts but desire to attain autonomy and empowerment for themselves and members of underserved populations
- Are finding that collaborations with business are opening doors of opportunity through increased access to funding, resources and knowledge
- See that the development of business-community relationships empowers them and broadens their sphere of influence

"The ANZ and National Australia Banks participated in the Sand Dune Revegetation project in Queenscliff and it was great to have these local businesses involved in the program. Participants were enthusiastic and enjoyed undertaking the work - they came well prepared and seemed to have a good understanding of what was required. We look forward to continuing the partnership with these and other organisations in future programs. The work done by BacLinks in facilitating the partnerships was greatly appreciated.”
Tara Ellard, Department of Primary Industries, Marine Discovery Centre.
"After a fairly unremarkable start to the Delta Dogs program in the Geelong Bellarine region, the local branch made a quantum leap when it was able to accredit 30 new Pet Partner teams at a single intake. We would regard this as an extremely good example in the Sydney or Melbourne branches but remarkable in Geelong. It is a clear indication of the enthusiasm with which the local community has embraced the program and the support it has received from BacLinks in assisting with recruiting volunteers and administration support for the event.”
John Cornwall, General Manager, Delta Purina Pet Partners
"From BacLinks I've been introduced to people from Alcoa and the National Bank. I've actually got some volunteers out of it".
Vanda Iwanowski, Delta Purina Pet Partners
"BacLinks has got specific skills to recruit volunteers from corporate backgrounds. They've got the knowledge and the contacts".
Arnie Bax, Australia Red Cross
"BacLinks were able to find for us, from Alcoa, someone who specialised in logistics. He had some suggestions for things we could do to improve our operations".
Roxanne Bennett, Kommercial
